Waterville, MAINE - The Colby Volleyball team took a 2-0 record into a double header Saturday and improved to 4-0 after wins over UMaine Presque Isle and Gordon College. The last time Colby started the season 4-0 was in 2012 when they opened 5-0 before their first setback.

In the first match, the Owls kept pace with the Mules on the defensive side of the court, but Colby dominated the net. Colby held the advantage in service aces (9-4), blocks (5-0), and kills (41-21) to take the victory in straight sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-9.
Hannah Wyllie once again provided a presence at the net, leading the team with 15 kills.

In the second match Colby faced a Gordon team that already had four wins on the season and had collected two wins in the previous 24 hours. The Fighting Scots took every set deep, and even topped the Mules in the second set. With both teams matching up closely in almost every statistical category, the glaring advantage belonged to Colby on the serve. The Mules led Gordon 15-3 in service aces, with six Mules recording at least one ace.
Jenny Slaveck (headline photo) was the statistical leader with five.
Colby is back in action this coming weekend to open NESCAC play. The Mules will visit Middlebury Friday night and face the Mammoths at Amherst on Saturday.
