Women's Lacrosse Beats Bates Bobcats

Lewiston, Maine - Colby Women's Lacrosse played Bates on Friday, winning 14-10. Colby played with about half of their normal roster, and started many underclassmen.

In the first half, Colby scored quick successive goals, going into running time after leading Bates by ten goals. The Colby attack scored 11 goals in the first half through six players. The goals were scored through a combination of feeds to the middle, crease rolls, and several penalty shots. Colby played a zone while defending Bates' clear, and managed to regain possession several times. Colby used a man-to-man defense, making effective slides and crashes in the middle. Freshman goalie Sarah Hearns only let in two goals in the first, an impressive performance. Colby ended the half leading Bates 11-2.

Colby opened the second half with another quick goal, though struggled to keep it in the offensive half of the field for the rest of the game. With very few substitutes, Colby got tired and allowed eight goals in the second half. Colby continued to use a man-to-man defense, though Bates was able to drive through the middle for shots, as well as pulling several penalties resulting in goals. Colby scored three goals in the second half, managing to retain a healthy lead against Bates until the end of the game. In the last few minutes, Colby tried to hold the ball to run down the game clock, but there was a lot of back-and-forth play in the middle of the field.
