Warterville, Maine - On a beautiful spring day on Mayflower Hill, the Colby College Mules and the Bates College Bobcats split a double header in NESCAC play. Bates came out on top in the first game by a score of 6-4, but the Mules saved the fireworks for the second game erasing an early 3-run deficit to walk off with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings.

The Bobcats tallied 16 hits in the opener, but Colby had 12 of their own. First year
Brenna Forbes ran her hitting streak to eight games and added two stolen bases.
Jackie Hill (photo left) continued her stellar 2021 campaign with three hits in the first game (five on the day), and has now collected 12 hits in her last five games.
Sam Ahlholm was strong on the mound for Colby, keeping the Bates hitters off balance and inducing weak contact. Only two of the 16 Bobcat hits were for extra bases.
In the second game of the double header, Bates jumped out early with three runs in the first inning off first year starter
Payton Crowley. The Mules chipped away with two runs in the fourth off a 2-run homerun by Crowley, and the equalizing run in the fifth on a
Chloe Wilcox double that plated Hill. After a leadoff single in the top of the sixth inning for the Bobcats, Crowley shut the door on the Bates bats, not allowing another hit for the next four innings. The Mules got a spark in the bottom of the 10th inning when Hill doubled in the winning run for the walk off victory. Crowley went the distance, pitching all 10 innings in the circle.
Colby ends their 2021 season with amazing momentum. In the last three weeks, the Mules have taken victories against NESCAC foes Bates, Bowdoin, and Trinity, and played tight against Tufts, dropping two close contests 0-1 and 2-4. Colby finishes with their highest win percentage in conference games since 2016 and second highest since 2004. Seniors
Lolo Niemiec and
Hailey Rohall will be missed, but their impact on the program will long be remembered.
