Hartford, Conn.- The Mules headed down to Trinity College today for their first double header matchup against the Bantams this season. Looking to improve off of last weekend's games, the Mules were unable to pull out a win against the Bantams losing 11-1 in game one and 5-4 in game two.
Sophomore Jack Pletter was pinned as the starter for game one, tossing 2.1 innings and giving up six runs. Cam Garfield came in as relief for Pletter where he would then give up an additional five runs. After giving up eleven runs in less than four complete innings, Patrick Carbonne came in as relief, hoping the Mules would step up on the offensive end. The lone run from the Mules came from sophomore Caleb Jung, scoring on an error. Jung would end up leading the team in hits this game, with two.
After a tough loss in game one, the Mules were looking for a different outcome as Teddy Durbin took the mound for the Mules. Durbin pitched 2.0 innings, along with senior Frank Driscoll, the two combining to give up four runs. Sophomore catcher Pepe Villamil started the offense for the Mules in the second inning, hitting a double to bring in Matthew Panker. Three innings later, first-year Brady O'Brien (pictured left) came up to the plate to hit his first career home run, bringing the score to 4-2 after five innings of play. The Mules would eventually score two more runs in the seventh inning, off of RBI's from Cabot Maher and Senior Andrew Russell. Looking to send the game into extra innings, Patrick McConnell took the mound in the bottom half of the seventh, but would give up a walk-off home run to the Bantams, the Mules losing 5-4.
The Mules play tomorrow, April 25, in Waterville against the Bantams of Trinity College in a double header. Please remember to follow Colby's COVID-19 guidelines and to wear a mask!
