Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Seniors with a Win Against Bates

Waterville, Maine - The Mules brought the energy on Sunday to celebrate the senior class, a group of women who have dedicated so much time to the program and certainly seen many successes.  The team played host to Bates and had a dominating win with a score of 18-5.

The first half began with a back and forth movement, the score staying at one goal a piece for Colby and Bates for several minutes.  The feeds to the middle weren't quite connecting in the beginning of the game but as the Mules settled in it would become a crucial play to scoring so many goals.  The Mules defense played a high pressure man-to-man, allowing very few shots on net, a sign of a strong and confident defensive unit. After a called off goal from Bates, Colby doubled down and upped the pressure even more.  Colby has a deep scoring lineup with the seven goals from five different players, ending the first half with Colby leading 7-4.

The second half saw a series of Colby goals from feeds to the middle of the eight-meter arc.  Additionally, there were also several drives through traffic in the middle, and one penalty shot.  Colby proved to have a diverse attacking tool box and showed the Bobcats what they were all about.  Colby scored 11 goals from six players.  Notably, sophomore attacker Annie Eddy scored five goals, and sophomore attacker Gianna Bruno and senior attacker Grace Langmuir scored three goals each. Colby continued to play a high-pressure defense in the second half, as well as using a zone pressure on the ride, which caused 15 turnovers, several that resulted in goals. Senior goalie Hannah Marino put up nine saves, allowing only five goals against in the game.

Lyla JonesSeniors had much love to give for their team and Lyla Jones (pictured left) captured it by saying, ""We came out with a lot of energy and I can't be more grateful for my team lifting the senior class up. Everyone was genuine, motivated, and playing for each other."  The love was felt today and was only made sweeter by a dominating win by the Mules.

Next Game: Colby Women's Lacrosse plays Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut on Saturday, April 24 at 3 pm.
