Box Score 2 Medford, Mass. - The Mules fell in both games to the Jumbos in Saturday's NESCAC doubleheader. Despite the two losses, there were several bright spots in the Mule's 15-4 and 9-6 losses today. The Mules now stand 6-6 on the season.
Game one of the doubleheader proved to be a chess match as Jack Pletter and the Mules sought to gain a lead. Unfortunately, the Mules were unable to mount a comeback against the Jumbos as they headed into the top of the seventh down 13-1. There proved to be some light in this dark situation as three of the Mules' runs came in the top of the seventh, including a home run by pinch-hitter Dylan Nastri (pictured left).
Game two showed some early promise as first-year Nicholas Thompson had gained a cushion from his offense off an RBI single from Marcus Forrester in the top of the second. Thompson pitched 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. Andrew Russell doubled in the top of the third to bring in Cabot Maher and Nastri had a sacrifice fly to bring in Russell. It is clear the Mules are not a team to give up easily because, just as in the first game, the team started to spark a comeback in the top of the sixth. Patrick McConnell hit an RBI single while also making his mark on the mound pitching 2.0 innings and giving up no hits.
The Mules host the Jumbos one last time this season in Waterville on Sunday April 18th for another double header. Please abide by Colby COVID guidelines and if you are not in the testing program we ask that you stream the games from the Colby Athletics website.
