Medford, Mass - Colby Softball traveled to Medford to challenge Tufts to a double header at Spicer Field. Even though there were no fans in attendance on Saturday's matchup both teams competed with great effort and sportsmanship.
The first game of the double header was a close one, ending in a 4-2 win for the Jumbos. Colby's
Sam Ahlholm (pictured left) pitched the entire game only allowing three runs and striking out four batters. She was a solid force for the Mules defense and kept her team in it until the end. The bats of the Jumbos were hot quickly and early, getting three singles in the second including an RBI from Josie Steinberg earned them the one to zero lead on the scoreboard.
Chloe Wilcox had the first hit for the Mules and an RBI single in the top of the third to tie up the game. The Mules would answer offensively in the sixth with a series of hits, including an RBI single from
Hannah Masterson which allowed Wilcox to score.
Peyton Crowley started off the second game on the mound, holding the Jumbos to zero runs through the first two innings. Crowley added on a hit in the top of the second. The first year duo of
Lauren Ilano and
Chloe Wilcox kept the Mules moving with singles in the third and fourth innings, respectively. The Mules lost the game 0-11 but are motivated for another chance to challenge the Jumbos.
The next matchup for the Mules will be another double header against the Jumbos on Sunday, April 11th at 2:00pm and 4:00pm in Waterville, Maine.
