Waterville, Maine - On Sunday, the Colby Softball team hosted the Jumbos from Tufts University the second day of a home-and-home four game set. Tufts was able to head home with two victories, 1-0 and 8-0.

The first game of the double header was a defensive battle.
Payton Crowley and
Sam Ahlholm teamed up on the mound to limit the Jumbos to two hits, allowing the line run to cross the plate in the third inning. Offensively, the Mules out-hit Tufts 9-2, with
Amanda Cabral (photo left) leading the way going 3-4 at the plate and raising her season average to .412. First year
Hannah Masterson added two hits of her own, including a double in the 6th inning. Colby threatened once more in the bottom of the 7th inning, advancing the tying run to scoring position before Tufts was able to retire the side.
"This weekend was filled with small victories for our program," said head coach
Terren Allen. "We held Tufts to a 1-0 ball game, out-hit them offensively, and played solid defense. Iw was an incredible game to watch and it shows the progress that our team has made this year. I am so proud of how far our team has come in such a short amount of time."
In the second game the Jumbos came out of the gate swinging, plating three runs on three hits in the top of the first. Senior Mia Steinberg led the way for the Jumbos with a double and three runs scored. For Colby, Masterson had her second double of the day. The second year tandem of
Logan Luebbe and
Brenna Forbes teamed up for a pair of hits for the Mules.
The Mules play again next weekend hosting Trinity College on Saturday before heading to Bowdoin for a double header Sunday.
