Women's Basketball with Victory over Bates

Waterville, Maine - The women's basketball team took on their first NESCAC opponent this year in their final weekend of competition for this season.  The Mules brought the fire today against the Bates' Bobcats and had an exciting win which will launch them into tomorrow's game when they face off again against the Bobcats.

Colby led 20-18 after the first quarter. The Mules are locked into a tight battle with back and forth play defined by strong defense with the Bobcats. Colby was led with key buckets
by Chiamaka Ubani (11)  and Mycala Carney (23). The Mules continued to lock down defensively having no problem building a strong lead before the half. After the second quarter Colby had built a 42-30 lead over Bates. Colby started the quarter with momentum thanks to a strong Alisha Aube (33) drive and a Carly Chistofori (3) three.

Offensively, Aube led the way with nine points and Christofori was close behind with eight points. Defensively Ubani led the way with six rebounds allowing Colby to control the pace of the game. Colby's lead came as a result of 60% shooting percentage in the second quarter on 15 attempts, keeping that pace up Colby would go on win convincingly. Colby kept up the pressure in the third and led 65 to 50. Carney stood out with a key three as well as helping drive the Mules' offense. Colby looked to end a dominant game maintaining their strong defensive posture and continuing their offensive momentum.

Bates made a late game run to pull within single digits but Colby was able to hold them off for a convincing victory with a score of 77 to 70. Carney was the standout player of the second half with 21 points total with a perfect shooting percentage from three. Ubani also had a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Aube, Christofori, and Keagan Dunbar (21) all had over 10 points. Overall, Colby's 56.3% shooting percentage from three allowed them to dominate the offensive side of the court providing a strong victory.

The Mules will turn around and play Bates again tomorrow in Lewiston at 1pm to wrap up their season.  Due to COVID, please continue to stream the games from the schedule page on the athletics website.
