Mules Lose in Disappointing Fashion to 6-2 Bowdoin Polar Bears

Brunswick, MAINE- The Colby College Men's Basketball faced a disappointing second half in a road defeat yesterday, December 5th, to Bowdoin College. The final score was a tough to handle 74-61. With the loss, Colby falls to 5-3 while Bowdoin improves to 6-2.

All looked good for the Mules when they took a 38-31 edge over the Polar Bears by the end of the first half. This lead was fueled by dominance beyond the three point line, mostly by Matt Hanna and Noah Tyson. Both of the star players had two three pointers in the first, contributing to five three pointers on 29.4% efficiency for Colby. The end of the first half showcased a 12-5 run for the Mules, allowing them to push their advantage. Beyond three point shooting, The first half also featured 42.9% shooting from the field, 75.0% shooting from the free throw line, 27 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, and two steals for Colby Men's Basketball.

Once the second half started, the Mules were never again able to gain complete control of the game. Bowdoin opened with a 12-2 run of their own, taking their first lead of the game (41-40). The two teams then shared blows for the next ten minutes of play. Matt Hanna was able to keep the Mules competitive, pushing the score to 61-60 with a timely three pointer, having 4:30 to go. Unfortunately, from that point forward it was all Polar Bears. Michael Simonds was able to answer Hanna's three pointer with one of his own, beginning a 13-1 push for Bowdoin, ultimately leading to a 74-61 final. In the second half, the Mules finished with 23 points, shooting 6-25 from the field and 4-16 from three, 15 rebounds, four assists, one block, and two steals.

Despite the tough loss, Noah Tyson and Matt Hanna had strong performances. Tyson had 20 points ((7-14 from the field and 4-9 from three) paired with six rebounds, 2 assists, a block, and a steal. Hanna finished with 14 points, two assists, and a steal. The consistency of both Noah Tyson and Matt Hanna has quickly become a central part of the Mules' identity as a team, and will hopefully continue to be part of it for the remainder of the season.

Colby Men's Basketball will look to bounce back from this defeat when they host the University of Maine Farmington on Wednesday, December 8th, at 7:00 PM.
