Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Colby Women's Basketball Dominates Against Plymouth

Waterville, ME - Colby Women's Basketball faced the Plymouth State Panthers today in their eighth game of the season. Despite a strong start by the Panthers, the Mules proved dominant, emerging with a final score of 68-48.

The Panthers took an early lead in the first quarter, mustering an early score of 13-10. The Mules were able to stay in the mix throughout the quarter, though scrappy play leading to a handful of foul calls stifled their momentum early on. This changed in the second quarter, when the Mules grasped the lead with a layup by Chiamaka Ubani '22 in the fifth minute, bringing the score to 19-17. Despite a handful of fouls and turnovers by both sides, Colby continued their momentum, entering the second half with a score of 27-22.

The Mules heavily expanded their lead in the third quarter. The Mules were full-court pressing for much of the quarter, helping to stifle any shots attempted by the Panthers. This, coupled with the Mules' strength at the three-point and free throw lines, led them to enter the final quarter with a 21 point lead over the Panthers. The Mules stayed aggressive and maintained their full-court press in the final quarter of the game. The Panthers struggled to make more shots, successfully scoring 11 points, not enough to close the 30-point lead set by a three-pointer by Natalia Gonyea '25 in the fifth minute of the quarter.

The game ended with a final score of 68-48. Defense helped to propel the Mules to victory, with 37 of their points coming from rebounds or turnovers. Caroline Smith '24 and Keagan Dunbar '24 led the team in points scored, each successfully adding 14 to the board. Carly Christofori '22 and Ubani both proved to be defensive weapons, with Ubani making over a quarter of the team's rebounds and Christofori contributing to nearly a third of all turnovers.

The Mules are next set to face Thomas College on Saturday, December 11 at 3PM EST.
