Waterville, Maine – On rival weekend, the women's ice hockey team play Bowdoin twice in a row, once at home and once away. The Mules returned last night after a satisfying win against Bowdoin and opened their doors on Saturday to the Polar Bears for the second game of the weekend. The Harold Alfond Athletic and Recreation Center was teeming with energy as Colby was participating the Maine State Swim against Bowdoin, Bates, and other Maine teams. There were friends, family, and community members moving through the HAARC to cheer on Colby athletes. For those that spend lots of time in the building, it was quite pleasant to see it being used to celebrate competition in the NESCAC.
No game is a given in the NESCAC, and that was no different today. The Mules came out with a fire, although coming off a game the day prior it was clear they were playing smart so as not to tire themselves out by the third period. The first period remained scoreless, Bowdoin determined not to repeat what happened the day prior.

Early in the second period Bowdoin found the back of the net and put the a goal up on the scoreboard. Despite all efforts, Colby was unable to score the rest of the second period. That is by no means and indication of how the women performed. Goalkeeper, Nina Prunster (pictured left) had 21 saves and kept the Mules in it the whole game. Bowdoin keeper had 29 saves which, ultimately, sealed the win for the Polar Bears.
Despite having 29 shots to Bowdoin's 23, the Mules were unable to capitalize and in the final two minutes of the third period, the coaching staff pulled Prunster to put another player on the ice in an attempt to tie the game. While this is a high risk, high reward situation the Mules could not finish in front of the net and Bowdoin was able to score on an empty net.
The Mules will return to action next weekend in Castleton, Vermont to challenge SUNY Potsdam at a neutral location on Friday December 10
th at 7:00pm.
