Brunswick, ME - Colby Women's Basketball traveled to Brunswick this weekend to face the Bowdoin Polar Bears. Their first game of the NESCAC season proved tough, with the Mules falling to the Polar Bears with a final score of 44-65.
While the Mules fought hard in the first quarter, making multiple shot attempts and successful rebounds, it proved hard for them to get themselves on the scoreboard. The Mules finally broke through in the sixth minute, when Alexis Semidey-Martinez '25 made a successful jumper. The Mules fought back from here, holding the Polar Bears to one additional point and narrowing their lead. The second quarter proved similarly dominant for Bowdoin, scoring 18 points and emerging from the half with a 20 point lead on the Mules.
The third quarter proved closer, with the Mules scoring 10 points and the Polar Bears landing 14. The quarter was scrappy and had a lot of back-and-forth play, with various fouls, turnovers, rebounds and steals. The final quarter followed a similar pace, with the Mules added another 13 points to the board and the Polar Bears adding 11.
The game ended with a final score of 44-65. Keagan Dunbar '22 and Caroline Smith '24 led the team in points scored, landing 13 and 8 points, respectively. Dunbar also led the team in rebounds, making 7 throughout the game.
