Lewiston, MAINE- Colby Men's basketball traveled to Lewiston yesterday, December 3rd, to take on the 3-3 Bobcats. Before this game, the Mules had won three out of their last four to become 5-3. Colby fell behind early, but was able to battle back with a dominant second half, winning 78-72.
Men's basketball fell behind early in the game, losing 39-28 at the end of the first half. The deficit can be attributed to the Mules being out rebounded and outshot in terms of efficiency. Colby was able to cash in on 32.4% of its first half shots, where as Bates was able to convert 45.9% of its shots from the field. Neither team shot particularly well from beyond the arc, but the Bobcats still held the first half advantage, 16.7% to 15.0%. Colby also faced a first half deficit on the glass, being out rebounded 27-11. Colby allowed eight first half offensive rebounds, leading to six second chance points.
In the second half, Colby disrupted the momentum of Bates, battling back with 50 second half points to the Bobcats' 33. In this half, The Mules had the advantage in almost every category. Outshooting Bates 47.1% to 40.5% from the field. However, the real difference was from beyond the three point line, where Colby shot an absurdly efficient 46.7%. Bates was only able to convert 18.2% of their threes in the second half, meaning that the Mules could simply outscore the Bobcats with a flurry of three pointers. Colby also closed the rebounding gap, brining in 20 to Bates' 21, and held a second half in advantage in assists (10), steals (three), and blocks (three).Â
The strong win for the Mules was led by
Matt Hanna, who had 28 points on 20 shots, falling just short of a fifty-forty-ninety performance. He shot 9-20 from the field, 7-12 from three, and 3-4 from the free throw line. Hanna also collected seven rebounds, one block, and one steal.
Will King and
Noah Tyson also had strong performances, with 14 points and 12 points respectively. King also dished out six assists and had one steal, acting as Colby's primary play maker. Tyson did it all during the game, and performed as a lockdown defender. His final stat line featured 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and three steals.Â
The Mules will look to keep the wins rolling this Sunday, December 5th, when they travel to Bowdoin to take on the 5-2 Polar Bears at 6:00 PM. Â
