Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Mules Win Tourney at Castleton, Top Spartans 6-0

Castleton, Vt. - The Mules were invited to the Spartan Tournament, hosted by Castleton, and Connecticut College and SUNY Potsdam also participated.  Colby came away from the weekend with a dominating 2-0 record, winning the game against Castleton by an even bigger margin than the day prior.  With four different goal scorers, the Mules won 6-0, and dominated the two-day event totaling 10 goals and posting two shutouts.

During the first period, possession was very even for the majority of the twenty minutes.  The Mules were able to hold Castleton to only three shots for the whole period.  The game was scoreless until sophomore Mattie Tremper scored her first collegiate goal 16:15 into the first on an odd man rush.  Scoring on a wrist shot past the keeper's left shoulder, Tremper was assisted by Bri Michaud-Nolan.  Less than a minute later, Jillian Mazzocca scored from in front of the goal with an assist from Lexi Cafiero and McKinley Karpa.  Throughout the whole period, Colby put an immense amount of pressure on Castleton, setting them up 2-0 at the end of the first.

Only five minutes into the second period, Tate Senden scores her first goal of the season, knocking the puck in when the Castleton keeper could not control the rebound.  Two minutes later, Senden had a penalty for interference, but the penalty kill unit looked strong and did not let Castleton have any major scoring opportunities.  Minutes later Mazzocca scores her second goal of the game (12:49), off an assist from Karpa.  The rest of the period remained scoreless until the final 20 seconds Meg Rittenhouse scored with an assist from Paige Larose, and the Mules headed into the final period with a 5-0 lead against Castleton.

Colby scored their final goal about five minutes into the third period.  Senden scored her second goal of the day with an assist from Michaud-Nolan and Klara Jandusikova.  Nina Prunster played the entire game in net for the Mules and had a total of 14 saves and no goals scored on her at all this weekend.  Nina Prunster was named MVP of the tournament team and senior Lexi Cafiero also made the tournament team.

The Mules will take a break for finals and winter break and return to play Plymouth State University on January 2nd at 2:00pm.
