Worcester, Mass. - Colby Men's Basketball opened their season with an impressive win over New England College, beating them 94-84 in overtime. The win opens the 2021-22 season in the right column for the Mules who now stand at 1-0. NEC falls to 1-2 on the young season.
Despite only scoring 28 points in the first half, the Mules tore back from an eight-point deficit to net 50 in the second half, tying the game with 13 minutes left to play. The game was back and forth for the remainder of regulation, but Colby jumped out to a quick five-point cushion in extra frame before closing it out with a 10-point victory. There were several stand out performances for the Mules, including three double doubles.
David Basich had the first double double of his Colby Basketball career, putting up 12 points and 10 rebounds, he also passed the ball well, assisting on six baskets. Noah Tyson also had a double double, with 24 points and 12 rebounds. He also had three blocks. Will King was the best play-maker for Colby, as he was responsible for 11 assists, as well as 11 of his own points. Tyson and King were both NESCAC Rookies of the year their first years, and Matt Hanna is already in the 1000 pt club.
The Mules play Saturday in the finale of the Ted Coghlin Memorial Tournament when they face the hosts from WPI. Game time is set for 4:00 P.M.
