Amherst, Massachusetts- The Colby Men's soccer team traveled to Amherst Massachusetts to take on the Amherst Mammoth's this weekend. The Mammoth's topped the Mule's with a final box score of 2-0. The loss drops Colby to 6-7-1 and bumps Amherst up to 11-2-1 for the season.
For the majority of the first half no goals were scored. Colby played aggressively and shut down many attempts from Amherst to maintain possessions in Colby's defensive third. The Mule's had one shot early on in the half from
Jack Fletcher, but the shot was wide of net. Colby keeper Jered McNair had one great save in the 11th minute of play, from one of two shots that Amherst made on goal during the half . With two minutes left in the half Amherst scored their first goal of the game. The goal brought the score to 1-0 with the Mule's falling behind. The half ended with only three shots from Amherst and one shot from Colby. The box score remained at 1-0 closing up the first half.
In the second half a similar possession, and aggression based game was played. The Mammoth's had the first shot on goal in the 21st minute of the second half, saved by Colby's McNair. Four minutes later in the 25th minute of the half McNair made another save, but the Mammoth's followed the ball and scored in the same minute. The goal for Amherst brought the box score to 2-0. Colby's
Aidan O'Brien made the only shot for Colby in the second half, with five minutes remaining in the match, but the ball was just high of the net. The match ended with a final box score of 2-0 Amherst in the lead.
The Mule's play their last scheduled game of the season on Tuesday against Bates at 3:00 pm in Lewiston, Maine.
