Serdjenian Field Dedicated at Homecoming, Mules Drop Close Match

Waterville, Maine- The Mules played at home this weekend against Hamilton College in front of  Homecoming crowd, and the Mark R. Serdjenian Field was officially dedicated after the game. The final box score was 1-0 in favor of an undefeated Hamilton Continental team. The game moves the stats to 3-3-1 for Colby and 6-0-2 for Hamilton. 

The Homecoming game opened with Hamilton in possession. In the fourth minute of play, Hamilton scored the first and only goal, after a cross from the left side of the field. The rest of the game remained scoreless. Colby shot four times in the first half, with two on goal both from junior player Kerrie Verbeek. The half was aggressive and showed both teams possession skills. The Colby defense played well, with multiple blocks and headers on close call plays. Freshman keeper Emily Mcmaster commanded the defense and showed the comfort and finesse of a seasoned player. The half ended with a box score of 1-0 with the Hamilton Continentals in the lead. 

The second half started with the Mules in possession. A free kick  two minutes into the half for Colby taken from just outside the box led to a shot just wide of the net from Colby senior, Mannon Frykholm. The Colby defense played with tenacity in the second half that kept the Hamilton Continentals at bay. In the 24th minute of play Colby junior Ellie Hankin made a defensive save after a shot on net from Hamilton. The Colby defense continuously shut the Hamilton offense down as they hammered down on the net. Freshman keeper Emily Mcmaster made exceptional saves as Hamilton attempted to increase the score. In the fifth to last minute Colby sophomore Lily Fagnan put a shot on net in a breakaway play, but the Hamilton keeper made the save. The intensity of play picked up in the last few minutes of play with close calls from both sides. The homecoming game ended with a final box score of 1-0 with Hamilton taking the victory.

The Mules play again at home on Sunday against Bowdin College at 1:00pm.
