Strong Hamilton Team Tops Mules

Waterville, MAINE - The Colby College Field Hockey team faced Hamilton College in their homecoming match Saturday. The Mules began the day with a 4-1 record on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

The Continentals were able to put one in the back of the net with eleven minutes left in the first quarter, and another goal just over a minute and a half later. Down two goals, the Mules were ready to fight, and scored fifty seconds into the second quarter by first-year Pernilla Shaw with the assist to Kaitlyn Smith. Hamilton then put one into the back of the net later in the second quarter to bring the halftime score to 3-1 Hamilton.

Headed into the second half, the Mules were looking to make improvements in their game. Holding strong on their defense, especially their defensive penalty corner unit led by sophomore goalkeeper Emily Loeb, the Continentals were unable to score in the third quarter. First-year Sandrine Brien generated three shots on goal in this match, a team high on the day.

The fourth quarter for the Mules was also scoreless, while Hamilton was able to score off of a penalty corner to bring the goal tally to 4-1. The score would remain like this for the remainder of the match, with Hamilton taking the win.

The Mules will look to learn and improve from this match and face another NESCAC foe on Tuesday October 5th, welcoming Bowdoin College at 6:00 PM on the Bill Alfond Field. Go Mules!
