Medford, Mass. - The Colby Field Hockey team traveled to Medford Tuesday evening to take on the Jumbos of Tufts University. Tufts, currently the 3rd-ranked team in Division III, topped the Mules 6-0 and improved to 10-2 on the season. Colby's record dropped to 5-7. The midweek game is an abnormality for conference contests spanning such distances. The game was originally scheduled to take place in September, but was postponed to later in the season.
The Jumbos applied pressure early and kept the pedal down. Claire Foley tallied a hat trick with the first, fourth, and sixth goals of the evening. Two different Tufts players notched a pair of assists apiece. The hosts out-shot Colby 22-1 and had the advantage in penalty corners 10-0.
For Colby, sophomore
Marian Searby recorded two defensive saves and goalkeeper
Hattie Baker stopped seven Tufts shots, her second-highest tally of the season. First-year
Pernilla Shaw notched the only Colby shot on goal coming early in the first quarter.
The Mules are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Amherst to take on the Mammoths. Amherst is currently ranked 7th in Division III by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, boasting a 9-3 record. Game time is set for 11:00am.
