Waterville, MAINE- The Mules played the number one ranked Middlebury College this past Saturday on Bill Alfond Field. Looking to improve from their past NESCAC games, the Mules were ready to make a statement against the Panthers.
A very well-played first quarter by the Mules resulted in a 0-0 score after fifteen minutes. Heading into the second quarter, the Mules were able to generate some offense with winning a penalty corner. Middlebury was able to capitalize off of their own penalty corners, scoring on two out of their nine corner chances in the second. By the half, the score would be 2-0 Middlebury.Â
The second half of the match, the Mules were looking to hold Middlebury's attack to fewer shots and penalty corners. While the Mules gave up eleven corners, Middlebury was only able to score on one. Middlebury then would score one more goal to bring the end of the third quarter score to 4-0. In the fourth quarter, the Mules had a strong team defense and attack, finally scoring their first and only goal by Jackie Hill with just over a minute left in the match.Â
Although the Mules lost 4-1, they will be playing again tomorrow, October 17th, against Wesleyan at 12:00 PM. The Mules will also look to honor their three seniors in their final regular season home match. Go Mules!
