Box Score Medford, Mass. – The Colby College Men's Basketball team's chance at their first NESCAC title ends in heartbreak to the Tufts University Jumbos 102-94 in double overtime.
GAME NOTES
- It was a battle between #1 seeded Tufts and #2 seeded Colby for the conference championship. The Jumbos opened up the game on a 5-0 run but the Mules hit a pair of three point field goals to bring the score to 7-6 in favor of Tufts with 17:39 to play. With the help of hot shooting and 15 points from Luke Rogers, Tufts was able to break away and take a 41-28 lead with 1:27 before half. The Jumbos would take a 45-31 lead into halftime.
- The Mules clawed their way back into the game and got their first lead when Noah Tyson hit a three point field goal with 3:40 to play and followed it up with a free throw to put Colby up 64-63. The Mules took a three point lead with 0:06 to play but Tufts came right back down the court and Eric Savage hit a big time three pointer to tie up the game to bring it into overtime.
- Colby took the lead to start the first OT and went up by two points with 14 seconds to play. After a Colby foul, Dylan Thoerner of Tufts hit a pair of free throws to send it to a second OT.
- In the second overtime Tufts was able to pull away for the 102-94 win.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES
Dean Weiner (photo inset) led Colby with 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds. He shot 9-18 from the field.
- Matt Hanna finished with 21 points shooting 7-13.
- Tyson (headline photo) had a double-double for the Mules with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
- Will King pitched in with 12 points while Wallace Tucker had nine points and five rebounds.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE JUMBOS
- Savage led all scorers with 27 points. He also had 12 rebounds to complete a double-double.
- Rogers also had a double-double with 25 points and 19 rebounds.
- Brennan Morris finished with 16 points while Thoerner pitched in with 13.
KEY STATS
- Rogers finished the season first in rebounds per game in the NESCAC with 11.6 while Tyson finished fifth with 8.6.
- Sam Jefferson finished first in the NESCAC in three point percentage at 50% and Alex Dorion was fifth at 42.4%.

- The Mules will wait to see if they get an at-large bid to play in the NCAA Division III tournament. The selection show is set for Monday, March 2 at 12:30 PM.
