Box Score Waterville, Maine – The Colby College Men's Basketball team moves on to the second round of the NESCAC playoffs after a triple overtime 102-94 victory over the Bates College Bobcats.
GAME NOTES
- In front of packed house at Wadsworth Gymnasium, both Bates and Colby came out looking to get a win to move on to the semifinal round of the conference playoffs. Bates was able to get a jump on Colby to start the game and would go up by 12 with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half. The Mules climbed their way back into the contest, bringing the deficit to only four points at half. Bates took a 36-32 lead at the break.
- The second half was a heated battle with both teams trading baskets throughout. Colby was down by three points with 00:24 to play when Alex Dorion hit a three pointer to tie it up at 68-68 and send the capacity crowd on Mayflower Hill into an uproar.
- In overtime with 00:07 to go and the Mules down by two, it was Matt Hanna's turn to be the hero as he would lay one in to tie it up at 76-76 to go into a second overtime.
- In the second overtime it was more of the same story as the Mules found themselves down by three with 00:06 to play and first-year guard Will King hit one from beyond the arc to tie it up at 88-88 and send it to a third overtime.
- In the third and final overtime, Colby went up by five with 2:46 to go and would never trail again on their way to a 102-94 NESCAC quarterfinal victory.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES
Colby had five players score in double figures with King (photo right) leading all scorers with 32 points. He would also add 11 rebounds to complete the double-double. He also dished out five assists.
- Noah Tyson added 22 points and 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double of his own.
- Hanna pitched in 12 points while Dorion (headline photo) ended with 11.
- Off the bench, Wallace Tucker had 11 points.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE BOBCATS
- Jeff Spellman led the way for Bates with 23 points. He also came away with four steals.
- Omar Sarr had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. He also had four blocks. James Mortimer also had 15 points.
- Coming off the bench, Stephon Baxter ended with 12 points and Jacob Iwowo had 13.
KEY STATS
- There were eight ties and seven lead changes.

- Colby will travel to Tufts University to take on Amherst on Saturday, February 28 in the Semifinal round of conference playoffs.
