Mules take shutout victory over Amherst, 1-0

AMHERST, Mass.-  The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team took the shutout victory over the Mammoths of Amherst College, 1-0.

GAME NOTES: Nina Prunster (headline photo) in goal for the Mules tallied 34 saves and her third shutout of the season. Colby moves to 14-5-4 overall (9-3-3 NESCAC), and moves into second place in the conference standings.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • Lauren Klein (photo inset) scored the game winning goal with 56 seconds left in the second period. Moira Mullaney and Bri Michaud-Nolan assisted on the play.
  • The penalty kill unit played very strong, holding the Mammoths 0 for 5 on the night.
  • McKinley Karpa led the team with five shots.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MAMMOTHS:

  • In goal, Caitlin Walker stopped 20 shots.
  • The penalty kill stopped Colby on all their power play opportunities.
  • Carley Daly (nine) and Jillian Mazzocca (six) led the team in shots.
  • Amherst controlled the shots category 34-21.

KEY STATS:

  • Prunster's save percentage moves to .950 and her GAA drops to 1.24.
  • Klein with the goal moves to 13 points on the season (seven goals, six assists).
