Mules open 2020 with win over Plymouth State, 11-3

WATERVILLE, Maine-  The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team came roaring back early in the first period to take a commanding victory over Plymouth State University 11-3.

GAME NOTES: Down by one goal within the first five minutes of the game, the Mules tallied five goals in the first period to take control of the matchup. Senior captain Tess Dupre scored a hat trick and finished with four points on the night.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • McKinley Karpa (one goal, one assist) started the scoring frenzy for the Mules at 10:19 in the opening frame. Lexi Cafiero (four assists) and Sadie Kuhn (one goal and three assists) assisted on the play.
  • Senior Captain Moira Mullaney (one goal, one assist) scored less than two minutes after to make it 2-1. Anna Cosentino (one goal and one assist) got her first point of the night. She would get her goal at the 14:20 mark of the period.
  • Dupre scored at the  12:31 and 19:25 mark to end the first period with the 5-1 margin.
  • Lauren Klein (cover photo) scored within the first two minutes of the second. Cindy Giandomenico (two assists) set up the goal.
  • Dupre scored her third goal of the game to tally the hat trick at 12:10.
  • Stephanie Lane (photo inset) scored her first of her two goals on the night at 15:40.
  • The scoring continued in the third period with goals coming from Cosentino, Lane, and Izzy Tegtmeyer.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE PANTHERS:

  • Alexis Fagan gave the Panthers the lead in the first period with the goal at 4:59. Julie Nagel with the assist.
  • Both Taylor Thomas and Chantelle Ross each scored an unassisted goal in the third period.

KEY STATS:

  • Cierra San Roman finished with 10 saves for the Mules.
  • Becca Bridge tallied 32 saves, and Olivia Petito had 4 saves for Plymouth.
  • The game finished with one lone penalty early in the first. Colby could not capitalize and finished 0 for 1 on the power play.

NEXT MATCHUP: The Mules are back at it Tuesday when they travel to UMass-Boston. The game time is set for 6:00pm.
