Colby falls in close battle against Middlebury, 2-1

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team fell to the Middlebury College Panthers 2-1.

GAME NOTES:  After losing to the Panthers 3-0, the night before, Colby looked for redemption. Middlebury took the win with a power play goal in the final minutes of the game, moving the Mules record to 9-4-2 overall (5-2-1 NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • Bri Michaud-Nolan (photo inset) tied the game in the third period at 9:55. Lexi Cafiero assisted on the scoring play.
  • Cierra San Roman tallied 22 saves on the night. Her record now moves to 4-1-1 overall.
  • McKinley Karpa led the team with three shots.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE PANTHERS:

  • Katie Hargrave scored early in the first period. At 2:55 Madie Leidt and Morgan Griffin assisted on the score.
  • WIth the game tied 1-1, Madie Bayard scored on the power play at 14:06. Audrey Lazar and Anna Zumwinkle tallied the assists on the winning score.
  • Lin Han played strong in goal, recording 24 saves.

KEY STATS:

  • Cafiero now leads the team with 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists).
  • The Mules led in shots 25-24 and faceoffs 28-22.
  • Colby's power play could not capitalize with the man advantage going 0 for 3.

NEXT MATCHUP: The Mules will face the University of New England at home, Tuesday night (1/28). Game time is scheduled for 4:30pm.
