Colby's comeback falls shot in 50-39 loss to Bowdoin

Waterville, ME – The Colby College Women's Basketball team takes 50-39 home loss to the #2 ranked Bowdoin College Polar Bears.

GAME NOTES

  • The Mules and Polar Bears traded baskets throughout the first quarter with Bowdoin taking an 11-7 lead into the second quarter. Bowdoin was able to pull ahead in the second quarter bringing a 28-15 lead into halftime. Colby was able to cut the deficit to five by the end of the third quarter but Bowdoin was able to hold off Colby and take a 50-39 win.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES

  • Colby was led by Brooke Guiffre who had 12 points for the Mules. She shot 5-10 from the field and 2-5 from three. She added seven rebounds.
  • Paige Russell (photo insert) pitched in 11 points for Colby off the bench. She went 2-3 from the free throw line.
  • Ainsley Burns added six points and five rebounds. Jane MacKerron and Grace Coutu each had four points.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE POLAR BEARS

  • Samantha Roy led all scorers with 17 points for Bowdoin. She went 8-17 from the field. Maddie Hasson added eight points.
  • Graff, Hassan, and Sela Kay are all first in individual statistical categories in the conference. Graff is first with 16.4 points per game, Hassan leads with a 64.7% field goal percentage, and Kay with a 43.4% three point percentage.  

KEY STATS

  • As a team Colby is shooting 69.7% from the free throw line on the year.
  • The Mules are currently fourth in the NESCAC averaging 25.8 defensive rebounds per game.
  • Alisha Aube and Ainsley Burns are both in the top 15 in points per game in the conference. Aube is averaging 12.6 points per game while Burns is averaging 12.6.

NEXT MATCHUP

  • Colby will face Bates College at home on Friday January, 31 at 7:00 PM. The Mules look to avenge their 74-73 overtime loss to the Bobcats on December 4.
