Colby breaks away from UMF in 76-56 home win

Waterville, Maine – The Colby College Women's Basketball team breaks away from the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers and cruise to a 76-56 victory.

GAME NOTES

  • The Mules and Beavers traded baskets throughout the first quarter with neither team able to gain a comfortable lead. Colby took a 4 point lead into the second. Colby was able to break it open in the second with Ainsley Burns and Jane MacKerron each hitting double figures on the way to a 43-26 halftime lead. The Mules would continue to role in the second half and win by 20 by a score of 76-56

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES

  • Colby had 3 players score in double figures while Brooke Guiffre  (headline photo) was one point shy with nine on the night.
  • Burns  (photo inset) had the hot hand all night leading all scorers with 23 points. She went 9-15 from the field and 3-7 from three.
  • MacKerron finished with a double-double dropping 12 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.
  • Keagan Dunbar pitched in 12 points and Paige Russell added eight.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE BEAVERS

  • Alex Bessey and Molly Folsom finished in double figures for UMF. Bessey was the leading scorer for the Beavers with 21 points. Folsom had 12 points and nine rebounds.
  • Tia Day shot 50% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc to pitch in eight points.

KEY STATS

  • Colby is third in the NESCAC in three point field goals made per game with seven and fourth in three point percentage at 32%.
  • Guiffre is sixth in the NESCAC with a 41.4% field goal percentage.

NEXT MATCHUP

  • The Mules get back into conference play Saturday January, 25 when the Bowdoin College Polar Bears come to town for a 3:00 PM tip time.
