#5 Colby Mules get 16th victory 97-70 at Husson

Bangor, Maine – The Colby College Men's Basketball team traveled north to take on the Husson College Eagles and cruised to a 97-70 victory.

GAME NOTES

  • Husson was able to take an early 11-5 lead three minutes into the first half but a made three point field goal from Alex Dorion at the 16:57 mark gave Colby the spark they needed. The Mules were able to use that spark to take a 56-38 half time lead. The Mules continued to gain momentum and never looked back in the second half to get their 16th win of the season by a score of 97-70.  

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES

  • Colby used a balanced attack with multiple players pitching in. Sam Jefferson (headline photo) continues to put up big numbers with 21 points going 8-15 from the field. Dorion hit 70% of the shots he took with 20 points.
  • Matt Hanna had 12 points for the Mules while Noah Tyson added seven points and eight rebounds.
  • Dean Weiner (photo insert) was two rebounds shy of a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE EAGLES

  • Justice Kendall led all scorers with 31 points. He went 4-7 from beyond the arc. He also pulled down five rebounds.
  • Justin Thompson pitched in 17 points for the Eagles going 7-13 from the field. Brett Cunningham added eight points and five rebounds.

KEY STATS

  • Colby continues to rise in the D3Hoops.com rankings jumping from #12 to #5 in the most recent poll. This is the first top 25 ranking for the Mules since the 2009-10 season.
  • The Mules had 35 points off the bench and as a team shot 50% from the field.  
  • For the second time this year Sam Jefferson was named the NESCAC player of the week.
  • Colby is averaging 84 points per game while holding opponents to just 67.5 points per game.  

NEXT MATCHUP

  • Colby will be back in conference action Saturday, January 25 when they travel to Brunswick to take on the Bowdoin College Polar Bears at 3:00 PM.
