Mules fall in final seconds against Saint Anselm, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H.-  The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team went back and forth with Saint Anselm College, but fell to the Hawks, 2-1.

GAME NOTES: Continuing with the momentum from the win the night before, the Mules led in shots after two periods, 21-13. This game took the same narrative, with the Hawks taking the lead after the first period and Colby answering in the second. Looking as if overtime was needed again, Saint Anselm scored with 22 seconds left. With the loss Colby falls to 9-2-2 overall.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • Lauren Klein (headline photo) tied the game at the 6:55 mark, scoring off the assists from Madi Brown and Tess Dupre (photo inset).
  • Savannah Shaw had a repeat performance in net, stopping 24 shots. Now having a save percentage of .906.
  • The penalty kill had another stellar outing,stopping a five on three advantage for the Hawks, leading to the Hawks going 0 for 4 on the power play.
  • Moira Mullaney led the team with seven shots.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE HAWKS:

  • Amanda Nylander took the lead finding the back of the net at 14:54 of the first period. Jayden Young and Marissa Agerter assisted.
  • Katy Meehan scored the game winner off the Kendra Currier pass at 19:38 of the final frame.
  • Caroline Kukas had an impressive showing in goal, talling 25 saves.
  • The penalty kill held the Mules to 0 for 2 on the man advantage.

KEY STATS:

  • Colby dominated on the faceoff dots, securing 33 of 46.
  • Klein netted her fourth goal of the season.
  • Dupre tallied her sixth assist, as Brown now has her third.

QUOTE: Colby Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach Holley Tyng reflected after the game saying, "This was a great weekend series for the team. We certainly gained confidence playing a strong D1 independent team and battling back from deficits in both games. It'll be great to return to league play next weekend."

NEXT MATCHUP: Colby now looks forward to a big NESCAC weekend at Middlebury College. Friday's game is scheduled for 7:00pm.
