Colby prevails with 89-82 win over #5 Middlebury

Middlebury, Vt. – The Colby College Men's Basketball team prevails on the road over Middlebury College Panthers with an 89-82 victory, issuing Middlebury just their second loss of the season. 

GAME NOTES

  • Colby came into the contest ranked #12 in the latest D3hoops.com poll while Middlebury sits at #5. Both teams came out looking to prove NESCAC supremacy. Colby jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the first half but Middlebury was able to pull within one point midway through. The Mules would take a 39-34 lead at halftime. The Panthers would take their first lead of the game with 5:52 seconds to go by a score of 71-69. With the help of some timely three point field goals and free throws the Mules would get the 89-82 road victory.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES

  • All five starters played big roles for the Mules with four of them scoring in double figures. Will King was only one point shy ending with nine points.
  • Alex Dorion (headline photo) led all scorers with 23 points hitting 8-15 field goals. Sam Jefferson (photo inset) was close behind with 22 points shooting over 50% from the field.
  • Matt Hanna went 6-11 pitching in 19 points while Noah Tyson added 11 points.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE PANTHERS

  • The Panthers also had four players score in double figures with Jack Farrell scoring a team high 20 points going 9-17 on the night.
  • Max Bosco had 15 points for Middlebury while Tommy Eastman pitched in 14. Griffin Kornaker added 13.
  • Matt Folger pulled down a team high 12 rebounds. He is third in the conference with 9.3 rebounds per game.

  • Colby currently sits atop the NESCAC standings at 3-0.
  • Jefferson (50.5%) and Dorion (49%) are first and second in the NESCAC in three point percentage.
  • Colby as a team shot 50% from the field.

  • Colby's next five games will be on the road starting with a conference matchup Saturday January 18 at Williams College. Tip time is set for 3:00 PM.
