Colby tops Thomas to stay undefeated

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Basketball team closed out the Thomas College Terriers to get the 87-69 home victory and stay undefeated at 8-0.

The Mules started out the game on an 8-0 run with a few 3-point field goals by Wallace Tucker and Matt Hanna. Will King added a layup with 18:06 left forcing Thomas to use their first time out of the half to stop the momentum. The timeout proved to be worth it for the Terriers as Jordan Goodson went on to score the next 6 points of the game to bring Thomas within two points. The two Waterville based teams would trade baskets over the several minutes until Tucker (photo inset) was able to hit a jump shot with 8:17 to go to put the Mules up 25-18. At the 7:00 mark the Terriers' Evan Arsenault would hit a 3 point shot of his own to keep Thomas close. With 2:55 to go before half, Sam Jefferson would help give the Mules their biggest lead of the game after he hit a 3-point shot to put his team up 37-27. Another Jefferson three pointer with 00:04 to go would give the Mules a 42-31 lead into halftime. 

Sam Jefferson hit another three pointer to start the second half to put Colby up 45-33. Goodson wouldn't let the Terriers go down without a fight as he would lay one in with 18:54 to go to bring Thomas within 10 points. Colby would use a 7-0 run over the next few minutes to put the Mules up 59-40 with 14:35 to go. With the help of Jacob Godfrey and Justin Butler, Thomas would claw their way back into the game and bring the score to 59-49 with10:57 left. The back and forth battle would continue until Noah Tyson (headline photo) would hit a three point shot with 4:20 left on the clock and give Colby a 75-62 lead. Jefferson and Tyson would hit back to back threes in the following minutes and help finish off the Terriers to bring home the 87-67 victory.

Colby had five players score in double figures on the night. Sam Jefferson led all scorers with 25 points. Tyson would pitch in his second consecutive double-double for the Mules with 12 points and 18 rebounds. Hanna and Tucker added 15 points while Alex Dorion had 12 points.

The Mules' next game will be Saturday, December 7 at Colby-Sawyer College. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
