Box Score Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Basketball team moves to 3-0 to start the year with a win over in-state rival University of Maine, Farmington 91-65.
Earlier in the day the Mules were ranked as the top team in Maine after two road victories this past weekend where they scored over 100 points in each. UMF was ranked #2 on the list, and the two faced off in what was expected to be a fierce early season matchup. Colbyt started off hot in the first half, almost doubling UMF's score in the first 20 minutes entering the break at 57-29. Maine State Player of the Week Sam Jefferson had 18 of the team's 57 first half points, including two from three-point range. In Jefferson's last game he scored a career-high 40 points, nine shy of the Colby record of 49. The rest of the team showed they were comfortable behind the arc as well, combining for eight first half 3-pointers.
The second half proved a little more even as UMF sophomore Terion Moss created a spark for the Beavers adding 11 points to the 13 he scored in the first half for a season high 24 points. Three Colby players joined Jefferson (25 points) in double-digits. Alex Dorion and Wallace Tucker (headline photo) each scored 13, and first-year Will King (photo inset) scored ten and added six rebounds.
Colby next plays this friday and Saturday hosting Gordon College and New England College in the Colby Classic. The Mules face off against Gordon Friday night at 6:00pm, and take on NEC Saturday at 5:00pm.
