Mules take a thrilling home opener

Warterville, Maine - With the clock ticking down, sophomore forward Lexi Cafiero rocketed a shot to the back of the net to lead the Colby Women's Ice Hockey team past the defending NESCAC Champions Williams College by a score of 2-1.   

Game Notes:

  • "We came out fast and tried setting the tone early... I was impressed with the players grit and discipline against a very strong opponent," said Head Coach Holley Tyng.  "Nina was outstanding in net and it was really fun to see us knock a couple in late in the third."  

Highlights for the Mules:

  • Colby first year forward Cindy Giandomenico (photo inset) tied the game when she took a break away and beat the Eph goaltender Chloe Heiting (34 saves) high stick side at 12:26 in the third period.
  • With 26 seconds remaining in the game, Cafiero scored the game-winning goal on an assist from McKinley Karpa and Izzy Tegtmeyer.

Highlights for the Ephs:

  • The Ephs scored the first goal of the game during a power play at 7:24 of the second period.

Key Stats:

  • The Mules led the Ephs in shots on goal, 36-26.
  • Colby served 10 minutes of penalties, with 5 infractions, while Williams limited their penalty time to 4 minutes on 2 infractions.

Next Matchup: 

  • Colby is back in action Saturday to finish the home weekend against Williams.  The puck drops at 3:00 PM.
