WATERVILLE, Maine -- Despite 32 saves from Colby College goaltender Savannah Shaw, the combination of Olivia Good, Ashley Carbone, and Elena Gualtieri helped eighth-ranked Connecticut College to a 2-0 win in NESCAC women's hockey Saturday at Alfond Rink.
The Camels improved to 14-3-3 overall and 9-1-2 in the conference, while Colby fell to 7-10-4 and 2-8-4 in the league.
Game highlights
* After a scoreless first period, the Camels scored the game-winning goal at 14:52 of the second period on the power play. Lily Connolly won a face-off in Colby's zone to start the sequence. Gualtieri pushed a pass back to the right point to Carbone, who immediately slid a pass to Good for a shot and goal from the left point.
* Colby took an untimely penalty at 18:27 of the third period to hurt its chances for an equalizer. The Camels scored an empty net power play goal when Good started a play from her own end. She pushed a pass to the right boards to Carbone, who slid a pass up the boards to Gualtieri for the score.
By the numbers
* Conn College goaltender Bailey Mertz made 10 of her 16 saves in the third period.
* Shaw (pictured) played her first collegiate NESCAC game and did well with 32 stops and one goal allowed for the Mules.
* Colby had a 31-22 advantage in face-offs, including a 10-for-14 effort from Lauren Klein.
