WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College women's basketball team led after each of the opening three quarters, but Middlebury College rallied for a 55-48 victory in NESCAC play Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
The Panthers improve to 16-6 overall and 5-3 in the conference, while the Mules fall to 9-12 and 3-5 in league play.
By the numbers
* Sabrina Weeks finished with 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals for Middlebury.
* Maya Davis also had 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting for the Panthers. Betsy Knox came off the bench with nine points and two blocked shots. Point guard Alex Huffman had a game-high 12 rebounds and added three assists.
* Junior co-captain Katie McCrum finished with 18 points, 4-for-9 shooting from 3-point range, five rebounds, and five assists for the Mules.
* Haley Driscoll (pictured), who was honored before the game on Senior Day, had 10 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Ainsley Burns finished with 12 points for the Mules.
* The teams were tied 19-19 in rebounding at halftime, but the Panthers ended up with a 41-31 advantage. Both teams had 14 turnovers in the game.
Game highlights
* The Mules led after every quarter except the final 10 minutes. Colby took an 11-8 lead after one quarter and led 30-23 at halftime. The Mules took a 40-37 margin into the final quarter.
* Colby took a 48-43 lead when McCrum nailed a 3-point shot with 4:38 left in the game, but Weeks answered with a three of her own to cut the margin to two points. The Mules would not score the rest of the game.
* Knox had a 3-point play with 2:27 remaining to give the Panthers the lead for good at 49-48. Colleen Caveney added a layup with 1:12 remaining for a 51-48 lead. Weeks and Davis both went 2-for-2 from the foul line in the final 22 seconds.
