San Roman makes 47 saves to help Mules tie 10th-ranked Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. -- Colby College goaltender Cierra San Roman earned her first collegiate shutout, stopping 47 shots in a 0-0 overtime tie with 10th-ranked Amherst College on Friday night.

The Mules are 4-6-4 overall and 1-4-4 in the NESCAC, while Amherst is 8-5-2 and 4-3-2 in the league. The two teams will play again Saturday at 3 p.m.
 
By the numbers
* San Roman stopped 15 shots in both the first and third periods. She made five stops in overtime. San Roman moved to fourth in the NESCAC in save percentage (.946) and lowered her goals against average to 1.70.
 
* While Amherst had a decisive shot advantage, the Mules still managed 28 shots on goal. Mammoth goaltender Bailey Plaman also had a shutout.
 
* The two teams combined to go 0-for-7 on the power play.
 
* Both teams had one good scoring chance in overtime. Colby's Tess Dupre was stopped on a breakaway just 1:21 into play, while San Roman came up with a big stop on Alex Toupal's shot at 2:41.
