Softball falls twice to Jumbos

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Skylar Labbe homered to give Colby College an early lead in the second game of a doubleheader, but Tufts University went on to a 9-1 victory in NESCAC East play Saturday.

The Jumbos (11-5, 2-0 NESCAC) won 19-1 in five innings in the second game. The two teams will play the third game in the series Sunday at noon.

The Jumbos tied the game in the bottom of the second inning when Summer Horowitz led off with a home run to left field.
 

Tufts scored four runs on seven hits in the fourth inning to go up 5-1. The Jumbos then ended the game at five innings on the eight-run rule with four more runs. Raven Fournier's two-run triple brought in the final two runs.

Labbe finished with a pair of hits. Katie McLaughlin, Robin Spofford, and Grace Farnkoff had the other hits for the Mules.
 

Tufts jumped out to a 13-0 lead after two innings of the opener. Samantha Siciliano and Maggie Hoffman both went 3-for-3 and combined for seven RBI. Just nine of the 19 runs were earned.

Colby's run in the top of the fifth inning came off a McLaughlin triple with one out. Spofford grounded out to shortstop to bring in the run. 
 

Carly Swartz, Paige Hartnett, and Farnkoff also had hits for the Mules.
