Baseball team drops series opener to Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Matt Treveloni had three hits and Brooks Parker gave up just two earned runs in six innings for Colby College in a 6-3 loss at Trinity College on Friday in NESCAC East play.

The Mules (3-12 overall, 0-4 NESCAC) and Trinity (9-8, 2-2 NESCAC) will play a doubleheader at Murren/DiBenedetto Field at noon Saturday.

Treveloni (pictured), the lead-off hitter for the Mules, added a run, an RBI, and one walk. Parker gave up the six runs, but only the two were earned. He struck out three and walked three.

Daniel Schoenfeld struck out two and allowed one hit in the seventh inning, while Will Cohen did not allow a hit in the eighth inning yet gave up three walks (one intentional). Cohen was able to get out of the inning with a ground ball out to first base.

The Bantams scored three runs in the bottom of the first, but only one run was earned. Parker had a man at first base and two outs when Trinity rallied. Brendan Pierce smacked a triple to bring in the first run. The next run scored off a Colby error and the third came in off a single.

The Mules shaved the lead to two runs with a single run in the top of the second. Matt Garcia singled to open the inning and moved to third on a one-out double by Andrew Della Volpe. Tyler Mulberry had an RBI ground out to plate Garcia.

After the Bantams scored one run in the bottom of the second, Colby cut the margin back to two runs with a score in the third. Ryan Quinn tripled to open the inning and came in on an RBI ground out by Treveloni.

Colby had a good chance to take the lead in the fifth inning. However, the Mules came up with just one run after leaving runners on second and third. Treveloni had a one-out single and moved to third on Jackson Ward's single. Ryder Arsenault followed with a single to left field to bring in the run. 

The Bantams scored lone runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away.

Erik Mohl went all nine innings to improve his record to 6-0 for Trinity. He struck out two and walked two.

Arsenault had two hits and the RBI in the fifth. Ward, Garcia Mulberry, Della Volpe, and Quinn added one hit.

Matt Koperniak stole three bases to go with a hit and one run for Trinity. Cooper Mooney and Alex Rodriguez both had two hits.
