WATERVILLE, Maine -- Skylar Labbe drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Grace Farnkoff walked with the bases loaded to bring in the game-winning run in Colby College's 11-10 win over University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference softball Wednesday.
The Beavers' Kailyn Hill pitched a complete game shutout in a 2-0 victory over Colby in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Mules led 7-2 heading into the top of the sixth inning of the opener. The Beavers scored five runs to tie the game, but the Mules scored two in the bottom of the sixth to go up 9-7. UMF (2-10 overall) scored three in the top of the seventh to take the lead at 10-9.
Paige Hartnett singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh for Colby. Robin Spofford walked to push pinch-runner Holly Lallis to second base. Carly Swartz singled to load the bases with no outs. Labbe flew out to left field to bring in Lallis with the tying run. Ella Hommeyer's single loaded the bases again. After an out, Grace Farnkoff walked to bring in the 11th run.
Wiley Holton earned the win in relief for the Mules.
Swartz had four hits, two runs, and an RBI for Colby (6-9). Labbe added three hits, RBI, and one run. Spofford went 3-for-3, scored four times, and walked twice for Colby. Hommeyer (pictured) had her first collegiate home run among her three hits. Katie McLaughlin also had two hits and Julia Saul smacked a solo home run.
Alison Hamilton led the Beavers with three hits, two runs, and an RBI. Kiana Thompson also had three hits, scored a run, and drove in one run. Elizabeth Walker scored two runs and had two hits, while Cunningham had two hits and scored a run.
Hill struck out seven, walked one, and scattered eight hits in the second game for UMF. The Beavers scored a lone run in the second inning and added an insurance run in the fifth.
Cunningham led off with a walk and Margaret Fogarty had a one-out single to push her to third base. Bonnie-Jean Aiken singled to bring in Cunningham.
The Mules got the first two outs of the fifth inning, but Thompson kept the inning alive with a single. Alyssa Dillan singled to put runners on first and second base. Cunningham followed with another single to bring in Thompson.
Holton was a tough luck loser in the second game. She pitched a complete game, struck out four, and walked two.
Spofford and Farnkoff both had two hits for Colby in the second game.
