WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College pitcher Julia Saul worked 6.1 innings and did not allow a walk in a tough 1-0 loss to Thomas College in non-conference softball Thursday at the Colby Baseball/Softball Complex.
Sydney LeBourveau pitched a three-hit shutout and Korrie Laren had all the offense with a home run in the fourth inning for the Terriers.
Colby drops to 4-7 overall and will host Husson University in a doubleheader Friday starting at 3 p.m. Thomas improved to 3-12 in its first game in Maine after playing 14 contests in Florida.
LeBourveau has all three wins for the Terriers after striking out three and walking three.
Saul (pictured) took the tough loss for the Mules, going 6.1 innings and striking out one and walking none. Wiley Holton got the final two outs of the seventh for Colby.
After neither team could muster much hitting in the first three innings, Laren opened up the fourth inning with her home run.
Madison Bentz went 2-for-2 for the Terriers, while Courtney Veilleux, Lexi Colpack, and Kayla Bess all had singles.
Skylar Labbe had two of Colby's three hits and Ella Hommeyer had a single. With two outs in the sixth inning, Labbe kept the inning going with a double. Hommeyer followed with her hit, but Labbe was thrown out at home plate for the final out of the inning.
The Mules did get one runner on base in the seventh. Kathleen Mason walked and moved to second on a ground out by Carly Swartz. LeBourveau, though, got the final out on a strikeout.
