BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Dean Weiner had his best collegiate game with 10 points, 11 rebounds, four blocked shots, and four steals for the Colby College men's basketball team in a 72-60 win over Colby-Sawyer College on the first day of the University of the New England Tournament on Friday night.
The Mules (1-0 overall) will play UNE in the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
By the numbers
* Weiner (pictured) finished with seven offensive rebounds and shot 4-for-8 from the field.
* First-year guard Matt Hanna had a solid collegiate debut with a game-high 14 points, three steals, and just one turnover. Wallace Tucker, another first-year guard, added six points and three assists.
* Ethan Schlager added seven points, five rebounds, and a pair of steals for the Mules. Steven Daley went 3-for-4 from the field on the way to seven points. Sam Jefferson also had seven points, while Pat Dickert pulled down seven rebounds and dished three assists.
* Colby's defense forced 25 turnovers by the Chargers (0-1). Austin Boudreau nailed four 3-point shots on the way to 14 points for Colby-Sawyer.
How it happened
* Colby's defense was good enough to allow no starter for the Chargers to reach double figures in points.
* After taking a 32-26 lead at halftime, Colby started the second half strong and led 58-39 when Tucker hit two free throws. The Mules' biggest lead was 66-44 with 4:30 to go, allowing Colby to substitute liberally the rest of the way.
