Box Score 2 WATERVILLE, Maine — Emily Schatz '16 made her final two games at the new Colby Softball Field memorable ones by helping the Mules to a doubleheader sweep of Bates College by 7-6 and 3-1 scores Saturday.
Schatz had a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Mules the win in the opener.
Colby finished the season at 15-15, the first time the Mules have been .500 or better since the 2009 squad went 18-11. Colby also finished 6-6 in the league, the first time at .500 or better since the 2003 team went 6-2. The league started playing 12 conference games in 2007.
Bates (5-32 overall, 0-12 NESCAC East) took a 6-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning when Maddie Inlow ripped a two-run home run to left field.
Wiley Holton '19 started the bottom of the seventh with a double to right field. Sam Rizzo '19 reached on an error to get the first two runners on base. After an out, Robin Spofford '17 loaded the bases with an infield single. Tori Sansone '16 picked up an RBI when Holton scored on a fielder's choice. After a walk to Skylar Labbe '18, Schatz doubled to bring in the final two runs.
Labbe went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Sansone scored two runs in the first game.
Inlow had three hits, two runs, and two RBI. Madison Fox added two runs, one hit, and one RBI for the Bobcats.
Holly Lallis '19 got the last out of the seventh inning and earned the victory for Colby. Holton worked 6.2 innings and had four strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Mules scored one run in the second and added two more in the third inning. Saul worked a complete game, had two hits, and scored two of the three runs. She struck out two and walked none.
Katie McLaughlin '17 added two hits and an RBI for the Mules. Kathleen Mason '18 scored a run and had one hit.
Andrea Russo and Inlow each had two hits for the Bobcats.
Bates got the first two outs of the second inning, but Saul kept the inning alive with a single. She moved to second when Rizzo was hit by a pitch and scored on McLaughlin's single to center field.
Mason started the fourth inning with a single to right field and advanced to second when Saul reached on an error. Rizzo moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt. McLaughlin ended up with all the RBI in the game for Colby with a two-run single.
The Bobcats scored a lone run in the sixth inning. Karen Lockhart singled to right field to open the inning and came all the way around to score on Inlow's double to left field.
Sam Fellers worked all six innings for Bates, allowing just two earned runs.
