WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Caitlin Lawlor and Hannah Springhorn (pictured) both earned All-New England honors in leading the Colby College women's cross country team to a strong 11th-place finish at the New England Division III Championships/NCAA Regional Qualifier on Saturday at Stanley Park.
The Mules had a score of 347 and were just four points away from a top-10 finish. MIT won the New England title by three points over Williams College in a field of 59 teams.
"This was by far the best race the women have run all year," Colby head coach Jared Beers said. "To do that, after a roller coaster week, at the most important race of the season is truly impressive."
Lawlor, a junior, finished in 17th place with a time of 21 minutes, 47.10 seconds over the 6-kilometer course. Mule sophomore Hannah Springhorn took 23rd place in 22:03.04. The top 35 runners earn All-New England honors.
In a field of 406 finishers, Elizabeth Holland took 93rd for the Mules in 23:18.42. Amy LoTemplio finished 104th in 23:26.79, Mahal Alvarez-Backus placed 110th with a 23:30.47, and Sonia Tremblay was right behind in 111th at 23:30.74. Britt Biddle clocked a 24:11.88 for 159th place.
