Grayson Overman

  • Title
    Assistant Volleyball Coach
Grayson Overman, a NCAA Division I Champion and ten year Professional Volleyball Player, joined the Colby Volleyball coaching staff for the 2023-24 academic year.

"I am thrilled to have Grayson joining our staff," said Head Volleyball Coach Lindsay Johnson. "His competitive background, work ethic & positivity are what we need. His experience of winning a DI National Championship along with a 10 year professional playing career will be sure to enhance our program as a whole."

“I am so excited to be a part of Colby College and the Volleyball Program," Overman stated. "With its prestigious academics, competitive athletic programs and incredible staff, Colby will be the perfect place to begin my NCAA volleyball coaching experience. I look forward to learning as much as possible from Lindsay Johnson and Julie Hall while contributing to Colby’s tradition of excellence. I am so grateful for this opportunity to bring continued success to the Colby Volleyball Program.”

Before coming to Mayflower Hill, Overman was the Assistant Coach for Bob Yoder with the Gold winning 949 Athletics Volleyball Club Boy’s 15’s team at the 2023 AAU Volleyball National Championship Tournament.

“Grayson’s naturally positive approach to coaching along with his broad international competitive experience allows him to easily connect with players. He’s a difference maker!” - Bob Yoder, Former USC Men’s Volleyball Head Coach & USC Men’s Volleyball Hall of Fame Inductee.

Also in 2023, Overman was the Assistant Coach of the San Clemente High School Varsity Boy’s Volleyball Team under Justin DeBlasio.

“I had the privilege of coaching Grayson throughout his HS Club years. He is a special player not in the sense of his physicality but his intangibles. He has been successful at every level including 10 years overseas and when he came back he jumped into coaching to convey all the knowledge he has gained over the years. He is a fantastic 3rd party influence on people’s lives. Any program that is lucky enough to have him on staff, will be greatly benefited by his presence." - Justin DeBlasio, Director 949 Volleyball Club

During his professional career from 2013-2023, Overman played within the highest leagues of France, Switzerland, Finland and Greece, including international CEV matches. In 2016, he won the Finnish League and Finnish Cup Championship with Kokkolan Tiikerit in the Mestaruusliiga.

While being the first American to play professional volleyball in Lyon, France, Overman studied French Language and Literature at Université Lumière Lyon 2. During the course of two professional volleyball seasons in Rapperswil, Switzerland, he was also Head Coach of the TSV Jona Women’s Volleyball team and a Swiss Volley Regional Head Coach within the Canton of Zürich.

During his college career, Overman won the NCAA Division I Men’s Volleyball National Championship with The Ohio State University and currently holds two Ohio State blocking records. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications from The Ohio State University in 2013, focusing on Public Relations and Marketing.
