Biography

BEFORE COLBY

Kibet graduated from NOI High School Kabarak, where he played volleyball, soccer, and ran track and cross country. He worked with the Davis Projects for Peace.

AT COLBY 

Kibet majors in Economics-Mathematics with a concentration in Financial Markets. He is a member of the Colby African Club and the Global Friends Club.

2018 outdoor season highlights: Benard earned the prestigious 2018 Watson Fellow and is one of just 40 college seniors that sends new graduates to explore projects around the world for one year. He will head to Ghana, India, Tanzania, and South Africa to examine the challenges of living with disabilities in developing nations. Benard earned Colby's Norman White Award for inspirational leadership and sportsmanship at the senior awards ceremony. Kibet took fourth place in the 5,000 meters at the New England Division III Championships. He also had a fourth in the unseeded 1,500 meters at the Emory Classic, took eighth in the 1,500 at the Maine meet, and was 11th in the 5,000 meters at the NESCAC Championships. 

2017 outdoor season highlights: Benard placed 12th out of 23 runners in the 10,000 meters (32:20.25) at the NESCAC Championships. He also was ninth in the 5,000 at the Emory Classic and 14th in the 3,000 meters at the Maine State meet.

2017 indoor season highlights: Kibet competed in the 3,000 meters.

2016 outdoor season highlights: Kibet started the outdoor season at the PLNU Invitational with a 16th-place finish in the 5,000 meters. At the Bowdoin Invitational, Benard finished the 5,000 meters with a personal best of 15:23.75 and a victory. Kibet followed his win up with a third-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the Colby Open. Benard finished his sophomore season at the NESCAC Championships with a 12th in the 10,000 meters and a personal best of 32:13.74.

2016 indoor track season highlights: Kibet competed in the 3,000 meters in the winter season, finishing sixth at the Bates tri-meet and seventh at the Maine State Championships.

2015 outdoor track season highlights: Kibet competed in one event for the Mules in the outdoor season, taking 41st in the 1,500 meters at the Point Loma Invitational. 

2015 indoor track season highlights: Kibet competed in two events for the Mules, taking seventh in the mile at the USM Invitational and ninth in the same event at the Maine State Championships.
