BEFORE COLBY
Zane graduated from Woodstock Union High School and played lacrosse, ran cross country, and competed with the Nordic ski team. Zane finished top-10 in two consecutive years at Junior Nationals, was named a high school All-American twice, and was a three-time member of the New England Junior National team. He won six individual Vermont state titles and helped his team to three championships. Zane was a member of the Vermont Elite Team from 2012 to 2015. He was also a member of the National Honors Society.
AT COLBY
Zane is a Psychology major with a concentration in Neuroscience. He is the head of the Mountain Biking Club, a Colby Cares About Kids mentor, and a Colby Outdoor Orientation Trip leader.
2018 season highlights: Fields had an incredible third season with the Mules, finishing it off as as an NCAA All-American after taking sixth in the 20K freestyle mass start. Zane was Colby's first male All-American in program history. He was the number one ranked skier in the EISA, freestyle leader, and All-East First Team. He placed first in six competitions and second in another two events. Overall, he placed in the top 10 in all but one competition this season.
2017 season highlights: Fields had a fantastic second season, qualifying for the NCAA Division I Championships again. He had his best finish at the UNH Carnival, taking second in the 20K. He also finished 13th at the NCAA event in the 20K freestyle mass start and 30th in the 10K race. Zane was named to the All-East Second Team and ended the season as the 22nd-best distance skier in the country.
2016 season highlights: Fields made the NCAA Division I Championships in his first year, finishing 26th in the 10K race and 35th in the 20K. He was a Maine All-State First Team member. Zane had a strong carnival season and had four top-10 finishes. He finished sixth at the Bates Carnival 10K, seventh at the Williams Carnival 10K, and took seventh at the Eastern Championships 10K. In August 2016, Zane joined a select group of U.S. Junior skiers at an International Junior Camp in Norway.
