Cam MacDonald, a 2018 Colby College graduate, joined the Colby Men's Ice Hockey coaching staff in the summer ahead of the 2024-25 academic year.
From 2021-2024, MacDonald was an assistant coach at fellow NESCAC school Amherst where he was responsible for recruiting, on-ice skill development, pre-scout of opponents, individual video sessions, and responsible for the power play and coaching the defenseman during games and practices. Amherst's power play finished top three in the conference all three years including first in the NESCAC last season. During the 2022-2023 season, Amherst finished fourth in the country in team defense and first in the NESCAC at 1.69 goals against per game.
Prior to coaching and after graduating from Colby with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies., MacDonald signed a professional contract with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL and also played with the Fayetteville Marksmen of the SPHL.
During his collegiate career, MacDonald totaled 33 goals and 44 assists for 77 points playing in all 103 games. In MacDonald's senior season, the Mules won the 2018 NESCAC Championship and made it to the NCAA Frozen Four. That year he had a team high 16 goals and was second on the team in scoring with 26 points.
