BEFORE COLBY
Sam graduated from Springfield High School, where he played golf. He was a four-time Central State Eight All-Conference selection, a two-time IHSA state qualifier, a three-time Illinois State Junior Amateur qualifier, a two-time High School City champion, a Chick Evans Amateur qualifier, and a Sangamon County High School record holder. He was also a Illinois State Scholar and a National Honor Society member.
AT COLBY
Sam is majoring in Economics with a Financial Markets concentration. He is the vice president of Mayflower Hill Capital and Colby's Consulting Club. In the summer of 2017, Sam interned in retail lending at Bank of Springfield in his hometown. Over this past summer, he worked as a management consulting intern at PwC in Chicago.
2017 season highlights: Sam placed 11th at the Thomas Invitational, joined forces with teammate Elliot Snow for the low Colby score at the Colby Classic, and took 30th at the Maine Intercollegiate Championship. Sam was on the NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team.
2016 season highlights: Sam finished in fifth place overall and had Sunday medalist honors with scores of 79 and 71 for a total of 150. He also placed 25th at the Husson Invitational, including a 77 on the second day, and was tied for 29th (76 on second day) at the Maine meet. He also tied for Colby's second-best score at the NESCAC Fall Qualifier with an 85 and 78 for a 163 total. Funderberg was on the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team.
