Tyler Ackley is in his fifth year as The John "Swisher" Mitchell Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball in the 2021-22 academic year. He helped lead the Mules to the second best season in program history last year. Colby finished the 2019-20 season 24-4 and were ranked as high as 5th in the D3hoops Top 25. The Mules started the season off by winning its first 18 games and securing a share of the NESCAC regular season championship. Colby then advanced to the title game before falling in double-overtime. The Mules also secured a bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1997.

Prior to arriving at Colby, Ackley spent three seasons at Nebraska Wesleyan University. During his time on the bench with the Prairie Wolves, he recruited and coached seven players who combined to earn 14 all-conference honors, including a Jostens Award winner, three D3hoops.com All-Americans and the Conference's Most Valuable Player and NCAA Division III Final Four MVP.

Nebraska Wesleyan played a wide open game during Ackley's three seasons. The Prairie Wolves led NAIA Division II in scoring after the 2014-15 (92.5 points) and 2015-16 (96.3) seasons. The team also led NAIA Division II in made 3-point shots both seasons.
Ackley is a 2014 graduate of Castleton University and finished his career top 10 in school history for assists and steals. He helped lead Castleton to its first-ever North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title in 2011-12 and an appearance in the NCAA tournament. Ackley was a two-year captain for the Spartans.

 
He received a bachelors degree in Sports Administration from Castleton in May of 2014 and later went on to earn his masters degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine in 2019.
